The above Origami elephant was folded by and given to us by a Canadian bartender years ago. He told us it was good luck and to not spend it... we haven't!

On the right was a guy I saw at the fountain on the Charlottesville Mall. He was circling the fountain with this crystal plumb bob hanging in front of him. I have no idea what he was doing or if it was some sort of New Age ritual, but he was taking it very seriously.

197 of 365 - Swedish superstition... or cautionary tale!

7/16/2014

"Don't leave your keys on the table" is evidently a superstition in Sweden. According to the internet, the myth behind the superstition is an interesting and a cautionary one.

This is the explanation given by one internet
source:

"Back in the day, prostitutes would indicate to potential clients their working status by putting their keys on the table in a hotel or bar. Parents didn't want to tell their daughters 'Don't put your keys on the table, people might think you are a hooker.' So instead they told them 'Don't put your keys on the table, it's bad luck.

I don't know if this story is true. But I think it is really interesting folklore."

Masks have long been connected to our superstitions and religions. This was a small mask I saw in one of the antique stores here, and with a little editing, helped it fuel the flames of our fears!

Faith/Hope:
At the Menasha, WI Cemetery last weekend (so it is a bit of a cheat to the daily pic thing) The sky was fantastic against this old headstone.

Frustrations:
This plant has been a singular source of both frustration and agony for Jon. Poison Ivy is one of those things that either you are immune from or react violently to.I am immune, Jon reacts. We will not miss it.

Had to do a post of this monumental event! ;-) This is my husband handing off his Kitchen Aid Mixer to our son. This was one of our first purchases as a couple, and has been in heavy use for over 35 years. Jon is getting a new one for his retirement, so he is bequeathing this one to Landon.

182 of 365 - Emotions: Awe, simply awe.

We have had two straight days of tornado warnings, rain and almost constant thunder and lightening. That was awe inspiring in its own right, but then came tonight. The windows suddenly turned a very strange color, so I went out to check and saw the most beautiful sky I think I have ever seen. A double rainbow against a dark sky in the east and the sunset in the west. This toptrio is about 10 minutes of change from beautiful to unbelievable.

Tomorrow is the last day here in this house. I guess the weather gods saved the best for last. Here are a couple more:
