Why Photography and Stitch?

People ask me why I chose the media with which I work. There are many reasons. I love the tactileness of holding my fabric as I stitch - either by hand or machine. I like the “women's work” heritage of using cloth and thread. I like the way photography keeps my eye focused on the world around me (pun intended!). In many ways, I have found a way to combine sculpture, painting, collage, and stitching into one medium.

This slideshow explains it a little bit more, and shows some examples of the similarities of stitch and stroke.

"6' of Chaos"

This piece was recently juried into the 2021 Quilt National.

The below pictures are a step by step story of how another one of my pieces, Morning Treasure, came together and the techniques used to make them.

"Morning Treasure:

I finished this piece for a show entitled "Little Black Dress". It was held at the Brush Gallery in Lowell MA, and I am please to say that this piece was awarded 'Best in Show'.  It is hard to see details on the internet, so I have created this gallery to give you an idea of what goes into a piece and also so you can see some of the details up close! Hope you enjoy this, and if you have further questions or comments just let me know!
