Big wheels keep on turning

2/2/2022

This week our challenge was "Wheels" . Of course, my first thought was to go to the COSTCO tire center or the bike shop, but then I did some brainstorming with a fellow photog, and realized I should get beyond the obvious.  Shortly after our talk, I walked into the kitchen and spied this can opener. So there went an hour and many shots! The  natural light from the window was casting blue and the overhead lights cast the warmer color. I enhanced those a little  during editing and this was the result.

Then I walked to my studio. On the way I took these other shots of car and trash container tires, then a couple of colorful finds in  someone's front yard, then a final quick stop at the antique store next to my studio. .  Once in the studio, I took one last photo of the wheel from a punch .

It was a good exercise to  remind me to push on through the obvious... a good thing to always remember.

Please click on any of these to see the full frame slide show of these - no just the gallery snippets!

This week's challenge entry is above, and the alternates below. We were on the quest of "line" this week, and they are everywhere... there were tracks in  the snow, bare limbs, powerlines where they shouldn't be   and so much more outside... but it was COLD and dangerous walking out there, so I took most of my photos inside.   Including this one of Kettu's ear as she (smartly) basked in the morning sunshine! See the captions for more info about the others .

This is the edge of a manilla folder in the early soft light of my studio windo.

Strings from my window covering is the subject for this one also infront of my studio window. I lover the violet background of the building across from me.

Tried to capture just the line formed by the edge of the paper in this one. Might have to go back and try this one again with better light and background.

Week Two: Two Rectangles

1/16/2022

One of the great things about this group - well actually two things - is that it makes you actually take photos whether you feel like it or not, and it makes you see and notice! This challenge was about composition. How to compose a photo using two rectangles to form the composition. Here are the ones I took. The first is the submitted one.

Week One: Selective Focus

1/9/2022

Where to put your focus! Isn't that the number one problem we all have with life... too many choices and responsibilities. It is the same for photography. You can sit it the same place and focus on so many different things - even without moving your eyes- just your focus. So this week we worked on "Selective focus". Picking one very specific area of focus, and using our f-stops and shutter speeds to help accent that view. Here is my submission:

Here are three additional ones I took:

    2022 Photos

I am involved with a group, offered by Ricky Tims, that recieves a different photo "challenge" each week. For the group we edit down to posting only one photo a week, but sometimes I like my "out takes" as well, so this blog will tell you of my adventure, and show you the results.
